SAVING LIVES. PROMOTING INCLUSION. RESTORING DIGNITY.

The Smart Suicide Prevention Initiative (SSPI) is a mental health advocacy and community-based organization committed to preventing suicide, promoting emotional well-being, advancing social inclusion, and providing psychosocial support to vulnerable and underserved populations, including people in custodial and correctional settings.

Founded in 2013 by Apostle Dr. Smart MA-Chongo, founder of Reflections International Ministries, SSPI was born from a deeply personal loss—the death of a dear friend to suicide. That experience became a call to action: to help create a society where people in emotional distress are seen, heard, supported, and connected to help before it is too late.

Today, SSPI works to raise awareness, equip communities, strengthen mental health support, promote suicide prevention, and restore hope among people who are often overlooked or forgotten.

LIPS Africa Mental Health Workforce Initiative

As the training initiative of SSPI, LIPS Africa Mental Health Workforce Initiative is committed to strengthening Africa’s mental health workforce through professional education, practical skills development, and capacity building in counseling, mental health, suicide prevention, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS).

Through this initiative, SSPI seeks to equip counselors, community health workers, educators, faith leaders, humanitarian workers, volunteers, students, and other frontline professionals with the knowledge and practical skills needed to recognize psychological distress, respond compassionately, promote emotional well-being, and connect individuals and communities to appropriate care.

LIPS Africa reflects SSPI’s commitment to moving beyond awareness toward sustainable mental health support by developing a skilled, compassionate, and community-centered workforce capable of helping people in distress and promoting hope, healing, and recovery.

Our Belief

We believe that every life has value, regardless of circumstance, status, background, or past. Suicide prevention must go beyond awareness; it must intentionally reach those most at risk, provide compassionate support, and create pathways to hope, healing, and recovery.

Together, we can change the narrative, save lives, and build communities where no one has to suffer in silence.

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Helplines

SSPI provides accessible mental health and suicide prevention helpline services to individuals experiencing emotional distress, psychological challenges, or suicidal thoughts. Our helplines serve as vital pathways to compassionate support, guidance, and connection to appropriate care.

Through these services, SSPI is committed to ensuring that no one has to face emotional pain or a mental health crisis alone.
